Two weeks to Boston
As many of you know, I will be running the Boston Marathon on Monday, April 16. I have been running for almost 30 years and running the Boston Marathon has been a goal of mine for a long time.
There will be over 22,000 runners. This will be, by far, the largest race I have ever participated in. It's a pretty big deal in Boston, and there are usually about 500,000 spectators. The race will be televised on the Versus cable channel (formerly OLN). Chances are almost zero that you could see me, but it will give you an idea of what the race is like if you would like to check it out. If anyone is interested in following my progress through the race, you can go to the Boston Marathon website. On race day, you will be able to enter my name or bib number (10953) and get information as I pass certain milestones along the way.
The race starts at 10:00 a.m. EDT (7:00 a.m. PDT, 8:00 a.m. MDT). I am at the very end of the first wave, so I won't cross the starting line until 20-30 minutes after the race starts. There is a second wave that starts at 10:30.
If my training had gone well, I would have expected to finish in about three and a half hours. Unfortunately, I have had a knee injury since early February so my goal at this point is to finish in under 4 hours. I did a 20-mile run last week and it went fairly well, so I'm almost certain I will be able to finish, anyway.
Melanie, Chris, Ryan, and Kara will be joining me in Boston (not running).
